Eye Disorders, Acute Eye Infections & Ocular Trauma
Eye disorders, eye infections, and eye conditions come in a variety of forms and levels of severity, from minor, acute infections to chronic disorders. With any unusual changes in vision or discomfort you should see a board certified optometrist for a complete comprehensive eye exam.
Common Eye Conditions and Infections:
- Amblyopia – also known as lazy eye
- Blepharitis – inflammation of the eyelids involving hair follicles and glands
- Chalazion – a small lump that forms as a result of a blocked oil gland in the eye lid
- Conjunctivitis – also known as pink eye, this is the inflammation of the blood vessels that cover the sclera part of the eye
- Corneal ulcer – infection in the cornea layer
- Floaters – dots, spots or lines that interrupt vision
- Retinal Detachment – a very serious issue, this is when the retina begins to separate from the back of the eye ball
- Strabismus – an imbalance in the positioning and coordination of the eyes Epiretinal membranes
- Stye – a bacterial infection of the sebaceous glands in the eyelid
We also diagnose and treat many of the more uncommon eye disorders, including:
- Vein and artery occlusions – a blockage in one of the small arteries that carry blood to the retina
- Optic neuritis – an inflammation of the optic nerve
- Keratitis – a condition in which the eye’s cornea, the front part of the eye, becomes inflamed
- And many others eye disorders
Ocular Trauma
Additionally, we manage ocular trauma (usually on an emergency basis), many times by removing foreign bodies (metal being the most common). One of our eye doctors is always on call for emergencies after hours.
