First appointment

This was my first appointment with Johnson Optometric. I was very pleased with my experience. I found them to be timely and attentive. The assistant who ran me through much of my exam testing before I was seen by Dr Hammond was great. Dr Hammond was wonderful and explained everything. I would recommend this office and Dr Hammond to anyone seeking eye care

The lady who assisted me with choosing frames was very helpful. She was able to select several pairs she thought would be a good fit. I was able to pick a pair from this selection that I loved and did not need to keep looking around, getting overwhelmed with all the choices.

Check out was simple but I was not asked if I wanted to order my contacts. Maybe that information is not on the paperwork she receives and she did not know I needed them.. I did inquire on the contacts but I felt the price was a bit high so told her I wanted to check prices on line and would call back if I needed to order them. I was able to find my contacts for $22.00 less per box and get a rebate for $10.00 on ordering 4 boxes.

Annual Eye Exam

Been a patient for a long time. Love the doctors. In the past few years I have become very frustrated at the amount of time I spend at the appointment. This time it was 2 hours and I drove from Raleigh. I feel like it has become impersonal and that it’s more about how many patients can be “processed” versus really caring about people. I heard one lady say that she had been there 3 hours and 1 guy there before me was sleeping on the couch when I left. This time it was a zoo in the equipment room with patients waiting in the hall for their turn at the equipment and there were 6 of us at once. I understand delegation, but I am concerned about the training of the technicians/assistants and the level of work that they perform, especially they glaucoma testing. Where are their certifications on the wall like you see in other professional services?
I am a loyal patient and appreciate the care I have received, but big is not always better. Our time is valuable too.

Hi Penny Tillotson
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent visit. Our goal is to perform a very comprehensive eye examination in approximately one hour. That gives the front desk staff 15-20 minutes to check in the patient, verify their insurance benefits, and prepare any necessary paperwork needed for their exam. The doctor's assistant usually needs 15-25 minutes to take a history, perform pre-testing, and dilation (if necessary). Our technicians have been highly trained and typically perform 1000-1500 glaucoma test per year. The doctor will need 15-20 minutes to review the data collected and perform the remainder of the eye examination, and if indicated, to order and review any special tests that are needed. Unfortunately, some patients require more time, or we have emergencies, and we get behind schedule. We try very hard to keep on schedule and are mindful of the time our patients spend in our office. We are continually looking for ways to help efficiency without decreasing our standard of care. A review of your timeline on our computer showed your exam was at 11:00, the technician started your pre-testing at 11:20 and finished at 11:42, the doctor spent 28 minutes with his evaluation, which started at 11:52 and finished at 12:24. The remainder of your time was spent in our optical area and checking out. We have been blessed with a busy practice and many loyal patients like yourself, so we appreciate the feedback and will use it to enhance our patient satisfaction.

Great Care

I have worn glasses since I was eighteen months old so I have visited many eye doctors over the years. I am very pleased with the professionalism and care shown by the staff at Johnson Optometric. Dr. May is very personable and thorough. He explains the results and makes sure you understand his recommendations. The staff in the lab are very thorough and quite talented. I always appreciate their expertise. One of the most important things is they value your time. Appointments are on time for which I am very appreciative.

It is always pleasant to visit Johnson Optimetrics. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The doctors thorough and take time to explain. I love the Christian music played in the waiting area. The person fitting me for glasses was very helpful in helping me find glasses just right for me. The right style, size and color. Can\’t wait to get my new glasses.

Had a very pleasant visit. Everyone was very efficient and kept me moving. I appreciate not having to sit and wait long periods of time. I also feel I had a thorough exam and I’m looking forward to my new glasses.
